OBJECTIFYING CLASS
Characters such as Senex and Domina are wealthy and high in social class. They have a plethora of riches and occupy a luxurious castle filled with servants and anything that they could wish for. These wealthy characters have power and are not afraid to use it. The peasants that barter and beg on the street have no possessions, are unintelligent and amount to nothing in their life times. Domina is a perfect example of a rich character that abuses her power. The whole film she orders Pseudolus around, punishing him and treating him unkindly. Not only is she a power hungry woman, she is simply just rude. Her nose is always upturned in disgust and it seems as though she is constantly judging anyone who walks across the screen. She even despises her husband and rolls her eyes in annoyance on many occasions. She despises him so much in fact that she becomes seconds away from sleeping with another man. With her plan foiled, she sulks back to her husband and counts her riches.
The rich people in this film are portrayed in a very toxic way. They only care about themselves and judge the other characters that are not as wealthy as them in a very derogatory manner. On the other end of the spectrum, the film identities the poor and peasants and complete idiots. They mumble and stumble in the streets and are looked down upon by the wealthy. The rich have power and the poor are insignificant, this stereotype is established in this film and unfortunately is a very controversial topic that is still relevant in modern society.
