INTRO AND THESIS
The effect of objectifying women, race, social class and slavery found in the film A Funny Thing that Happened on the Way to the Forum, created a lot of controversy. The fact that many women are focused on sex and are clothed in scnadelous dress, highlights the fact of preconcieved steroetypes. The same can be said for race, the characters are portrayed purley on racial stereotypes and have no other defining characteristics. The slaves in the film behave in an idiotic manner and their situtation becomes laughable. This sheds a comical light onto slavery and takes the seriousness out of the situation. The harm caused by slavery in past history and current time is not a laughing matter and the film portrays it as such.
Finally, the ideas of wealth and social class are completely objectified. The rich are cruel and mistreat the poor. The film makes it seem that the poor are to serve the rich and that they have no other defining purpose. This film commands these controversial stereotypes and puts them to use over all aspects of gender, race and class.
